What is the Timeline of events for the Club West golf course?

  • July 1989:

    • Foothills Club West CC&Rs created by UDH Homes.

    • Bylaws for the Club West HOA are created.

  • February 1993:

    • Club West Golf Course CC&Rs created by UDC Homes.

  • Fall 1993:

    • Club West Golf Course opened by REA (subsidiary of UDC Homes) – named among the “Top 20 Golf Course in Arizona” by The Arizona Republic.

  • July 1998:

    • JF Shea Homes acquires UDC Homes.

  • August 2000:

    • SunCor Golf buys course from UDC Homes.

  • Mid 2009:

    • City of Phoenix announces closing of water reclamation plant that supplies Club West golf course (offers reduced price on potable water for 2010-2015).

  • December 2009:

    • Wilson Gee (“Hiro Investment”) buys course for about $485,000.

  • Summer 2016:

    • Gee limits summer play to 6-9am, citing high cost of water.

  • Summer 2017:

    • Gee completely shuts down Club West golf course.

  • November 2017:

    • Richard Breuninger & partners buy and re-open the course briefly.

  • March 2018:

    • Breuninger closes the course without paying Gee or the water bill.

  • October 2018:

    • CW HOA Board holds secret meeting to amend the golf CC&Rs to allow just 400 affirmative votes (need to have at least 31% of 2,600 members for quorum and have 51% vote “yes”).

  • January 2020:

    • The CW HOA Board invites The Edge Home Developers to present their plan for 162 new houses on 1/3rd of the golf course, along with a new Par 60 “mini” golf course on the remaining land.  The Edge hosts a community “open house” at Altadena School to sell their plan to the community.  Concerned Club West Homeowners attend the Altadena meeting to present concerns over the new housing plan, including photographic elevation studies of the housing impact on views.

  • February 2020:

    • The Club West Conservancy is formed and initiates legal action against the HOA Board.

  • March 2020:

    • CWC forms subcommittees to research options and costs for a re-opened full-length golf course or creation of walkable open space parkland.
